This documents details the procedures for encoding to Quicktime H.264 using progressive download.
These specifications should be used for all video uploads to the SAS media server (media.sas.upenn.edu):

The following specifications can be used from Final Cut or iMovie

Export using Quicktime conversion


and select 'Options'

That brings up the 'Movie Settings' window. Select 'Video Settings'

That brings up the 'Standard Video Compression Settings' window:

All settings should match the ones detailed above and Select 'OK.' Back at the 'Movie Settings' window select 'Size'

Check the summery found above. 

If the video is placed in the 'web_root' section of media.sas it will play as a progressive download  file and no settings need to be changed above.

If the video is placed in the 'media_root' section if media.sas it will play as a streaming file and you must change the 'Prepare for Internet Steaming' dropdown menu to 'Hinted Streaming'

Encode time on G5 dual 2.0GHZ w/ 1.5 MB of RAM = 1hr  /  30min of video

File size = 1hr/300MB

Faculty and staff in Penn's School of Arts & Sciences may request accounts to host media files on this server. Please send mail media-admin@sas.upenn.edu with the following information in your request:
* Full name

* PennKey

* Email address

* Phone number

* Department

* Purpose of the request; please cite specific course numbers, program names, or other details about how this material is related to your work at Penn

* Format of content you expect to host (e.g. Quicktime, Real, MP3, Windows Media, other), and if it should be delivered through streaming or download

* If you want to limit access to this material to members of specific courses, or other selected individuals; cite specific course & section numbers or provide PennKeys for authorized users. This is required for any content for which you do not hold copyright, or when you do not have explicit written permission to use content owned by others.

* Any other questions or comments about how to prepare, host, or deliver your media files
